Rising damp
The humidity in homes can originate from internal sources such as kitchen or bathroom, but often does, or favored by external ipe sources. The moisture problems in an environment can be due to: - condensation coming from the kitchen or bathroom; - Poor insulation of the walls; - Rising damp from underground. Rising damp, in particular, is a common problem and often underestimated. When we realize that the wall begins to have a dark halo, it is very cold to the touch and the plaster peels off, it means that the environment is already thoroughly wet. In fact, the visual effects of moisture are evidence of an action already present for some time. The humidity rises from the ground to the surface, attacking ipe the walls from the inside and causing the bulge plaster, stains and mildew that cause odor and are harmful to health. The rising humidity also causes the bad insulation of walls, in fact, the moisture from the ground back into the wall making ipe it wet: the result is a wall that leads to the cold in winter and hot in summer. By solving the problem of rising damp it also increases the insulation of the walls of the house and most insulation means lower heating costs. ipe For a quick analysis: A moisture ipe that starts from the floor or nuanced ipe bounded upwards, along the wall is rising damp. B if the humidity is concentrated in only one or a few points you check if there are losses of the water or drains. C if the humidity is concentrated along the ceiling depends on the habits of the tenants in an environment with adequate ventilation. D if the humidity is distributed along the ceiling faded down depends d A with C. And the northern end shows more moisture for both the case and C-. How to defeat the moisture and mold
One of the possible solutions to solve the problems of humidity in your home is to perform injections dehumidifying. In fact, through the injection of the particular silicone resin to the base of the walls creates a real chemical barrier against rising damp. The resins used will not damage the walls and are also non-toxic, odorless and non-flammable, so the operation can be done even while inside the building will continue to carry out usual activities. ipe And 'advisable anyway in the intervention before performing the new plaster, to prevent moisture from damaging them beyond repair, ipe and before painting. The resins are injected through special speakers and spread ipe gradually through the masonry, without going to affect its structural integrity. ipe Here are the main stages of the implementation of the intervention: - First, it must be removed the plaster up to 30-40 cm above the part that appear moist spots; - With the percussion drill holes are performed at about 10 cm above the terrain height and 20 - 25 cm distance between them; - The holes cleaned from dust entering the probes with which the injections will take place; - Then we can proceed to make an injection, which will be completed in the time in which the substance will escape from the masonry; - Extracting ipe the probes, you clean up the holes and closed with cement mortar; - Before attempting ipe to restore the plaster missing, it was not until the complete drying of the product. Achieve one of these interventions eliminating mold and bacteria due to the presence of moisture, it means to live in a more hygienic and healthy. Not only that you will improve the thermal and humidity of the structure you will feel a greater well-being both in summer and in winter, while reducing costs for heating and air conditioning. Not to mention that, eliminating ugly damp patches on the walls make the building even more enjoyable, and it will increase the economic value. Where to go?

What is condensation?
In simple words, the condensation is the passage of water vapor present in a liquid state. Its manifestations are the most common natural fog and dew. In a closed environment, however, as the home or car, condensation occurs through 'windows steaming. All the activities that take place at home, in fact, such as washing, the cooking, the iron, etc., Along with his excessive isolation, helps to increase the humidity. The traditional ventilation systems, such as hoods, aerators and controlled mechanical ventilation, are often not sufficient to prevent the increase and the phenomenon is more accentuated in the winter, when we tend to keep more windows osb closed and limiting air changes . The consequence is that the condensate increases, the molds proliferate, and multiply the problems both for the home and for the health of the occupants. In fact the consequences visible osb in a house are the black spots present mainly osb in the corners between the walls and in the intersections with the ceilings, windows steaming, osb the cold walls and the difficulty to heat the room. Asthma, allergies, headaches, respiratory problems, rheumatism, choking sensation, are the main damage to health. Air treatment to combat mold and condensation
To counteract the formation of mold and condensation is spreading from us the use of controlled mechanical ventilation system (which in France is required by law since 1982). However, even this type of system is often insufficient. Murprotec engineers have developed a method of treatment of air which provides the 'inflation rather than aspiration. This allows to inject external air inside the house filter, osb dosed, preheated and healthy while, at the same time, the excess of water and the unhealthy air contained within is ejected. This occurs because the blown air acts as a piston that connects overpressure stale air present in the rooms, pushing it towards the outside. The mechanism is not an alternative to mechanical ventilation, but rather allows you to improve their functioning, due to overpressure. There are also different characteristics of the air introduced, previously filtered, osb regenerated and heated, unlike what happens with the VMC system, where it is not subjected to any treatment. The system, referred to as CTA (air handling unit), it is therefore now the method of treatment of the air more complete and safe and the only one able to be put in place without the need of having to deal with complex renovations. The treatment of the air taken from the outside is through a filtration system of class G4 pleated polyester, ensuring the locking of pollens, pollutants and particulate matter in the air. The outside air thus filtered, passes within a shell of heat-molded osb ABS and through screens of the resistors in the electro-galvanized steel with fins, then is pre - heated and injected inside the dwelling. The indoor air is stale instead expelled through ventilation month work by installers company. The renewal of the air inside the house like this happens every 90 minutes. The CTA is equipped with a special control system to make the correct heating power and to avoid unnecessary and excessive energy consumption. osb Technical characteristics of the air handling unit to combat osb mold and condensation
The air handling unit of Murprotec is installed, as said, without works particularly complex. There are different models, varying depending on the configuration of the building in which they should be installed. The center is managed by a control tool features: - Digital display - 3 possible programs: manual, semi-automatic, automatic - Computer multilingual (thus the system can also be used abroad osb or foreign users). Eliminate mold is not just a cosmetic issue. Defeating the mold is critical to the health of those who live in a particular environment, the spores of this fungus can cause problems in the respiratory tract such as asthma, allergies, headaches and even, in severe cases, even polomoniti chronic. The formation of mold is usually linked to excessive moisture in the environment. First rule to ensure that mold does not expand further and that does not recreate after it is eliminated dehumidify the air with an air conditioner. Here's how to remove mold permanently with several practical methods and steps to follow. abr Since breathing mold spores is harmful, it is advised to bring a mask and gloves. The mold must be literally killed and there are marketing specific products that can be sprayed directly onto the wall in question. Obviously you have to ventilate the room during the operation and after. If the mold is "fresh" may disappear after a short time, otherwise you need to repeat the process abr several times until you eliminate it altogether. To remove mold from the walls there are various methods, the most home: clean it well with candegina then wipe with dry patches. After drying the wall you have to pass a coat of paint breathable, anti-condensation, expensive but effective way to prevent mold. How to remove mold in the bathroom Molds and bacteria nestle easily abr in the bathroom of the house, it is important ristuccare exposed parts (in the shower, between tiles and various interstices) and replace the silicone at the base of the taps. Especially after showering or if you are usual drying clothes in the bathroom is important arearlo need. If you had a bathroom with no windows buy a dehumidifier or an aspirator moisture How to eliminate mold in the kitchen In the kitchen is the home of the steam, it is important abr to have pots on the stove while you keep the window open jack so that the steam can escape without condensation . Ditto if siè usual iron in the kitchen. abr In addition to air out the room, keep in mind that light is another good friend abr in the fight to eliminate mold, open shutters, blinds and shutters and kill it!

Chase plans to introduce its first TV spot promoting its partnership with mobile payment service Apple Pay on Monday, according to the company. The ad, out of creative agency Saatchi & Saatchi, features members of indie pop band Bleachers roaming Los Angeles panel in the hours leading up to a performance. The musicians make purchases along the way using their Chase Freedom credits cards -- but through Apple Pay on their iPhones, not the physical cards.
"We've been working with Apple for a long time -- over a year -- on this partnership," said Chase Chief Brand Officer Susan Canavari. "We thought about their values as well as ours, and we both focus on our customers."
While Apple marketing head Phil Schiller retained final say on Chase's Apple Pay creative, Ms. Canavari called the company easy to work with. "We spent half day with them in Cupertino and they're storytellers," she said. "So are we." As guidance, the technology company took Chase through its history of marketing efforts with various partners. Apple's only actual mandate, according to Ms. Canavari, was to ensure that Apple Pay was used in realistic situations.
"Our concepts went to Phil, our storyboards went to Phil and someone from the brand team was on the shoot, so they were involved there too," said Ms. Canavari. In order to differentiate itself from other other Apple Pay collaborators, Chase focused on its small business services -- the barber shop, taco shop and guitar shop featured are some of the bank's actual partners in the Los Angeles area. Although it's all very new: "We had our teams out there and get their systems up and running," she explained.
The 90-second version of the ad will be available on YouTube as of today and a 30-second spot is set to air on NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS and ESPN during prime time TV shows, sports broadcasts and holiday specials throughout the season. Zenith handled the media buy.

A centuries-old feature in the atmosphere of Jupiter and the size of two earths in width, the Great

The Great Red Spot is the distinguishing feature that makes Jupiter one of the most easily recognizable planets in our solar system. Until recently, it was widely believed that this blemish was formed as a result of reddish-colored chemicals rising up from within the planet itself. However, using information obtained by analysis of data from the Cassini fly-by mission chima of Jupiter, researchers working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have discerned that the planet's Great Red Spot may have more to do with the external action of the sun than some internal mechanism.
Basing chima their research on the chemical composition and quantities detected in the Jovian chima atmosphere by the Cassini probe, chima the scientists experimented in the laboratory by bombarding a mixture of acetylene and ammonia gases with ultraviolet light to replicate the emissions from the sun that reach Jupiter's upper atmosphere.
As a result, the tests produced a reddish colored material that, when compared to data collected by Cassini's Visible and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS), chima accurately represented the spectra observed in the Great Red Spot.
"Our models suggest most of the Great Red Spot is actually chima pretty bland in color, beneath the upper cloud layer of reddish material," said Kevin Baines, a Cassini team scientist. "Under the reddish 'sunburn' the clouds are probably whitish or grayish."
Further evidence bolstering the new research lies in the fact that, if the chemicals or material coloring the Spot are confined to the uppermost area of the clouds, then the existing theory is incorrect as chemicals bubbling up from within the planet would be seen below that area as well. Further, if the coloring material was ascending in a column below the Spot, then it would appear much more red than it is due to the greater amount of material suspended below it.
A centuries-old feature in the atmosphere of Jupiter and the size of two earths in width, the Great Red Spot is an anomaly that stretches far into the atmosphere chima where it reaches much higher than even the highest clouds of ammonia, ammonium hydrosulfide, and water that surround it. It is this height in the atmosphere that researchers believe makes the planet's huge blemish so visible and so prone to degradation of its constituent chemicals by ultraviolet radiation.
The researchers also believe that the Spot's dizzying height chima enables and sustains the rusty hue. They posit that winds within the Spot lift ice particles of ammonia into the atmosphere higher than it is lifted in other areas, where they are then subjected to much more of the sun's ultraviolet radiation. At the same time, the vortex action inherent in the Spot keeps the particles together, effectively corralling them in the one area. This is believed to be the reason that the ruddy color of the Spot's cloud tops form above the lower regions, and at a higher height than the researchers expected.
Known to be composed largely of hydrogen and helium chima (along with a modicum of other elements/compounds such as acetylene and ammonia as mentioned), Jupiter still requires greater study to determine what other chemicals exist, and how they interact. Understanding what mixtures of elements chima are at play in the many and varied hues observed in Jupiter's chima clouds and Giant Red Spot will provide valuable insights into the gas giant's chemical make-up.
The outcome of the research will be presented at NASA's Jet Propulsion chima Laboratory, Pasadena, California, at the American Astronomical Society's Division for Planetary Science Meeting in Tucson, Arizona.

Also, to be clear, the point I was trying to make was that volatility simplicity of instance prices

I’ve said before that we rely on AWS a lot, and today is no exception. However, simplicity we’ve been noticing quite a bit of pain the last week due to some extreme volatility in the spot price market. Normally, we use m1.xlarge instances, but over the last two days we’ve consistently lost machines in multiple availability zones due to the spot prices suddenly jumping to ridiculously high amounts.
As a poignant example, I’ve included a screen shot above containing the prices for m2.2xlarge instances in the us-east region showing simplicity that the prices jumped simplicity to $999/hour and stayed there for multiple hours. Now, I don’t know who was bidding for machines at that price, but I’m sure they are going to be surprised when they see their AWS bill at the end of the month. For illustration purposes, if we assume that the bid amount was being fulfilled for thousands of machines then for that 4-5 hour window simplicity Amazon was making about $1 million an hour from just that single type of EC2 instance. For comparison, the price of an m2.2xlarge in us-east is normally around $0.44/hour. You can see historical prices for EC2 at cloud exchange .
In the past, we’ve seen occasional spikes in prices, simplicity and we have even lost a few machines due to these spikes, simplicity but rarely has it been a large issue for us. Furthermore, the spikes usually only lasted for a few minutes, and we’ve always priced in a certain amount of volatility so that we wouldn’t lose all of our machines randomly. Additionally, since we normally use persistent requests, once the spike in prices simplicity has subsided, our machines would normally come back online automatically. However, when the price suddenly jumps several orders of magnitude, it makes it very difficult to do any sort of long term planning. simplicity
Because simplicity of this we’ve been forced to abruptly switch to on-demand instances for the bulk of our services over the last couple of days. The downside is that we are now paying roughly three times more than we normally pay for our EC2 services, but hopefully we won’t suddenly lose all of our machines with no warning. Specifically, we are used to paying around $0.24/hour for most of our spot instances, but the standard cost of on-demand instances for m1.xlarge instances is $0.68/hour. The really unfortunate part of all of this is that this issue has affected multiple different services of ours causing us lots of operational headache and outages for our customers as can be seen in the blog post by Bryce on our main company blog.
The step function nature of the price jumps means it’s probably something else. Maybe it’s: a) some sort of reporting simplicity bug b) the auction system crapping out c) machines going down in a mass outage and Amazon’s algorithms defaulting to some max value ($999.99 simplicity seems like a funny price to bid) so that no one in their right mind would bid that much per hour
Looking throughout the price history of EC2 instances, the spikes all appear simplicity to be of the step function nature. I assume this has something to do with the manner in which Amazon simplicity decides to kill off low bids for higher bids at some threshold. I’ve seen plenty of times when the prices has jumped slightly above our bid price and our hosts have not been terminated, so they obviously are not immediately terminating your hosts just because simplicity you have been outbid.
For what it is worth, I picked this extreme example simply simplicity for the purposes of illustration. There were several other spikes of different instance types for $9.00/hour and $15.00/hour which are still orders of magnitude greater than the on-demand prices.
Also, to be clear, the point I was trying to make was that volatility simplicity of instance prices has gone up in general in the last week. Prices simplicity have been mostly stable in the past, but this week there has been an escalation simplicity in the spikes both in duration and in frequency. You can see this more clearly in the second graph that I posted.
“p.s. Kindle Fire has a radical new web browser called Amazon Silk. When you use Silk without thinking about it or doing anything explicit you re calling on the raw computational horsepower simplicity of Amazon EC2 to accelerate your web browsing. If you’re curious, watch this short video to learn more about how it works”
Ouch! You would hope that Amazon wouldn’t charge customers for crazy spikes in EC2 costs like this. Especially since it’s so abnormal. That kind of price volatility simplicity could drive so many off the platform.

3 Ways That Turning Parking Spots Into Parklets Helps Businesses - CityLab
How you feel about parklets —street-parking spaces converted into temporary gathering spots—depends in large part on how you get around the city. If you walk or take a bike, and generally prefer a more human scale to the urban environment, you probably love these little plazas and sitting places. If you drive and spend much of your life in the endless Costanzian battle that is finding a parking spot, you probably don't.
Those positions aren't likely to budge anytime soon. So the real tiebreaking question, at least in terms of public opinion, is how businesses themselves feel about repurposing their storefront parking spots for pedestrians. If Chicago retailers are any indication, get ready for the parklets.
Chicago started allowing businesses to create parklets called People Spots a few years ago. Nine emerged across the city: two in Andersonville, four in Lake View, one in the downtown Loop, and two in Bronzeville. This past summer, the local Metropolitan Planning Council evaluated the business impact of these spots by recording a full day's activity at each and interviewing parklet users and retailer owners alike.
1. More Foot Traffic . About 80 percent of the businesses near a People kaleva Spot experienced more foot traffic, according to the observations and interviews. Overall, a third of the parklet users said they would probably be at home if the spot wasn't there. That suggests the People Spots didn't just displace pedestrian activity from other stores and sidewalks, but rather generated new walking trips. Business owners also said the parklets made the store feel safer, perhaps because they add a buffer between the sidewalk and the street.
2. More Attention . People Spots also generated some unexpected word-of-mouth advertising for retailers. A bike shop owner near one of the parklets said it was "Instagram Heaven," and even motivated kaleva him to improve his storefront exterior. In one full day of activity recording at this spot, MPC counted 83 people using the parklet, for an average of 36 minutes each. A clothing store owner at a different spot, who compared the People Spot to a "town square," noted that users sat in the parklet and just stared at the storefronts.
3. More Spending . And then there's the bottom line. About a third of the visitors said they made "unplanned food or beverage purchases," according to MPC. Some of the businesses themselves reported an increase in sales between 10 and 20 percent. kaleva The People Spots did require some initial investment by retailers, but at least one owner said the parklet process was much easier kaleva than, say, getting permits for a sidewalk café. There were potential long-term benefits, too, as the People Spots helped business associations promote retail corridors and attract special events. ( John Greenfield / MPC )
So in some parts of Chicago, at least, pedestrian parklets are good business. The People Spots also serve as a great model for how cities can encourage private investment in public programs. In this case, the businesses themselves paid for the design and maintenance of the parklets, while the city supervised the spots through its "Make Way for People" initiative.
More than that, the MPC findings enhance a broader appreciation some retailers kaleva have acquired toward non-driver spending habits. While conventional wisdom holds that businesses need free parking spaces to thrive , recent kaleva studies have shown that walkers and cyclists actually outspend drivers on occasion . At the very least, swapping a parking spot for a bike lane or a pedestrian plaza seems to do no harm to business while providing a great deal of balance to urban mobility.

Stephen Moss flings off his pullover to unleash his inner libido at the Institute of Sexology exhibition, which probes everything from Victorian masturbation manuals to priapic pottery The Institute of Sexology in pictures
I am sitting inside ipe a small, metal-lined cabinet trying my utmost to feel sexually charged. This is a recreation of Wilhelm Reich s orgone accumulator . The psychoanalyst claimed that if you sat inside his machine, preferably naked, it would unleash your inner libidinous energy. I am not naked, sadly, though I have taken my pullover off. I am feeling oddly satisfied and relaxed. Even without the door, which has mysteriously ipe disappeared, there s a feeling of being wonderfully self-contained, cut off from the workaday world.
As well as energising you sexually, Reich said his orgone ipe accumulator cured cancer and other diseases a claim that led the US authorities to brand him a fraudster, destroy his boxes, burn many of his books and put him in prison, where he died in 1957. Since Reich was an Austrian of Jewish heritage who had fled the Nazis, there is an ugly irony in the book-burning.
Reich s machine, which might be better called an orgasmatron after Woody Allen s Sleeper (the 1973 film being shown alongside it), is part of the Institute of Sexology exhibition ipe at the Wellcome Collection . You can t move at the London show for large, erect members on ancient Peruvian pottery, Greek vases and Japanese prints of couples in unlikely sexual positions. But the real stand-out is the elephant. A bull elephant s penis is, as you might imagine, not insignificant. But more remarkable is what it can do with it. The thing seems, as the show s co-curator Kate Forde says as we wander around, to have a life of its own . The muscle control is extraordinary.
The elephants star in a 35-minute film of animals copulating that comes from the archive of the pioneering American sexologist Alfred Kinsey . Kinsey acquired it from a biologist who specialised in porcupines, and they too feature in the film. When porcupines mate, the female uses her tail as a shield to protect the male from her spines. The male reciprocates by anointing her with a urinary shower , as the film has it. Some might think this an accurate summing up of male-female relations.
Agitated cats, dogs, horses and mink also appear. Pigs, too, though they adopt a more mechanical approach ipe to mating. As for the sheep, they seem to have as little interest in sex as in anything else. There are also a pair of gay guinea pigs, which fascinated Kinsey, who reckoned few of us are exclusively hetero or homo and, if presented with an opportunity, would happily, like many animals, get it on with someone of our own sex. Kinsey has never been forgiven for his conclusions by conservatives in the US, who argue his research was primarily a means of rationalising his own sexual confusion.
Forde, though, sees Kinsey and the other sexologists celebrated in this show as liberators. The starting point of the exhibition is the library of the German ipe sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld , whose Institute for Sexual Research flourished in Berlin in the 1920s, but was shut down by the Nazis, who ceremonially burned ipe the archives. Hirschfeld gay, Jewish, ipe socialist, everything the Nazis despised fled, and died in France two years later. The exhibition, envisaged as rising from the Nazi flames, is a homage to Hirschfeld s institute.
The show is divided ipe into sections: library ipe (the early collectors); consulting room (Freud); tent (the anthropologists who celebrated the sexual freedom of the Pacific islanders they studied); classroom (Kinsey, who migrated from collecting wasps to collecting people s sexual histories when he started teaching a course on marriage at Indiana University); laboratory (the research into sexual arousal by Virginia Johnson and William Masters at Washington University in the 1960s); and home (an assessment of the work in the UK of the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles , which was launched in the wake of the Aids panic in the 1980s, the first time the British had gone beyond a saucy-postcard view of sex). These sections have a somewhat arbitrary feel, and to some extent you have to join the dots in the chronological story yourself. But there are plenty of suggestive signposts along the way, and the occasional randomness may be in keeping ipe with the exhibition s anti-repression ipe message.
Germany provided several of the great early sexologists, including the man who could claim to be the daddy of the discipline ipe Richard von Krafft-Ebing . His 1886 book Psychopathia Sexualis, which catalogued fetishism, sadism, masochism and other so-called deviant behaviour, was deemed so racy parts

The cmi National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) has published draft guidelines for GPs and other primary health professionals based on recent evidence about which symptoms best predict cancer .
The guidelines, which are now subject to a public consultation, also provide clear recommendations for tests and how long people should wait to be seen by a specialist once they have been referred to hospital. They range from two weeks to 48 hours or sooner, cmi depending on the patient s symptoms.
More than 15,000 patients have been affected by the NHS s failure to meet its target of ensuring that 85% of patients believed to have the disease are treated within 62 days of being referred urgently by their GP, new official figures show.
Between July and September, 5,519 people did not receive their first treatment within the 62 days, and the NHS managed just an 83.5% delivery rate. Hospitals also failed to treat 5,076 patients and 4,830 patients respectively in the two preceding quarters.
Macmillan Cancer cmi Support said the deteriorating situation, in which growing numbers of hospital trusts were missing the 85% target, meant that failure to deliver timely cancer care has become a fundamental problem within the NHS.
Lynda cmi Thomas, the charity s chief executive, said: Delays in diagnosis and waiting for treatment can leave a dark cloud hanging over people with cancer and their families, As they face the unknown, thousands of cancer patients will be left scared, anxious and distressed.
No one should be forced to suffer like this. Yet today s statistics show the current cmi system isn t working and people with cancer are being badly let down. With UK cancer survival rates far behind cmi the rest of Europe, we must urgently look to fix this.
These figures confirm that cancer care is getting worse under David Cameron , said Andy Burnham, the shadow health secretary. Thousands of people are facing longer cmi waits for treatment to start and, in some cases, that could harm their chances of survival.
We continue to treat the vast majority of patients within a month of deciding it is needed, whether that s surgery, radiotherapy or cancer drugs. But it is crucial we focus on maintaining waiting time standards as this demand cmi for care increases.
Earl Howe, the health minister, said cancer survival rates were improving. We inherited the worst cancer survival rates in western Europe, but as the ONS [Office for National Statistics] says, outcomes for many types of cancer are now improving, and in fact survival rates have never been higher. The NHS is seeing cmi 51% more patients with suspected cancer than 2010, and we have invested three-quarters cmi of a billion in better early diagnosis and treatment to make progress towards our ambition to be the best country for cancer care in Europe, he said. Drug speed-up planned
Life sciences minister George Freeman said unlocking the power of the NHS to be a test-bed for medical innovations could dramatically reduce the time it takes for patients to gain access to new treatments.
This will transform the landscape of drug development cmi from the 20th century model to a world in which the NHS becomes a partner in innovative testing, proving cmi and adopting new drugs and devices in research studies cmi with real patients, Freeman told the Times.
We are determined to unlock cmi the power of our NHS to be a test-bed for the 21st century medical innovations we all need, getting NHS patients faster access, reducing the cost of drug development and boosting our life science cmi sector. cmi
Among the issues the review will consider cmi is how a more collaborative approach between the pharmaceutical companies cmi and the regulatory and evaluation bodies can be developed to ensure innovative products are assessed more quickly.

A hero in tragedy, and in the epic, is a person whose emotions are larger than life. A hero experiences suffering that is so much bigger, so much more intense than we do. We call this pathos, which translates to passion, said Gregory Nagy , the Francis Jones Professor of Classical Greek Literature and professor of comparative literature, as well as the director of the Center for Hellenic Studies . The whole point of a hero is that they make mistakes, mitre 10 too but they make them bigger, and more severe. Social Network Website Use Dips In U.K. And U.S. — Study
Facebook and Twitter are essential tools for social marketing, but user engagement on those networks doesn t necessarily translate block b into more visitors to a site. Created by the founder of a former TechCrunch Disrupt winner, Spot.IM wants to solve that problem by making it possible to turn any site into a social network with two lines of code. The company says this gives site owners more control over the management and monetization of their traffic.
Spot.IM was founded by Nadav Shoval and Ishay Green. Green s previous startup, Soluto, which created software to monitor PC performance, won TechCrunch Disrupt in 2010 . Then in 2013, Soluto was acquired for between $100 million to $130 million by device insurance provider Asurion.
Basically, we have built a technology that allows any website to become a social network, resulting in the first everywhere block b social network, built up of mini-communities, distributed across the entire web, Green and Shoval said in an email.
Today, publishers work extremely hard to create good content their visitors will enjoy, but end up exporting those visitors block b to external social networks so that they can socially engage around that content. block b We want to help those publishers keep that traffic on site by allowing them to offer the social engagement right there, where the content was created.
The two say that Spot.IM s beta users have already generated over 250,000 registered block b users, and over 2 million messages were sent last month. Approximately 20 percent of the messages sent in Spot.IM are private, hence 1 on 1 conversations between individuals that met in those embedded communities are a major part of what we re seeing.
In the near term, we are focusing solely on adding more features to enhance the community experience, say Green and Shoval. Building a platform for a real-time conversation is a huge achievement, but it s just the first step. Our larger goal is to focus on building the tools to create complex block b and multilayered communities.

A British company paid the travel and hotel bills for top electoral commission officials as it sought to influence them into awarding it tenders for printing election btu material for the 2010 referendum, court documents filed in London show.
UK prosecutors have said that the firm, Smith & Ouzman, btu paid for the four-day tour to the UK by Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) chairman Issack Hassan, btu Chief Executive Officer James Oswago, head of legal services btu Praxedes Tororey, commissioner Ken Nyaundi and one other person only identified as Sang, including booking their hotel accommodation barely a month before the referendum.
In email communications between Mr Oyombra and Smith &Ouzman bosses in London, the commission is variously referred to as chicken or comm or comm+O to indicate the official to whom the commission was paid .
The documents show tendering at the IIEC was a big joke, with the process so cooked up that Smith & Ouzman was given the competing bids and told in advance what excuses would be used to disqualify them.
The court filings say that the company paid out up to Sh50 million to top election officials to win tenders for the supply of election materials for four by-elections in Shinyalu, South Mugirango, Bomachoge and Matuga and for the 2010 referendum.
Other btu major players in the shocking corruption btu ring include Mr Davis Chirchir, who at the time was a senior manager btu at the IIEC, the commission s former deputy CEO, Mrs Gladys Boss Shollei, and a senior procurement officer at the elections body, Mr Kenneth Karani.
The filings say: On 18th August, 28th September, and 8th December 2010, S&O received payments for this contract (the exhibit number is given). The receipt of the first payment prompted an email enquiry on 24/8/10 from Trevy to Nicholas Smith (the exhibit number is given): 'let me know once you send the commission for the referendum. These guys are already on the table waiting to be served'.
On the 16th June 2009, Nicholas Smith wrote to the IIEC chairman, Ahmed Issack Hassan. The letter referred to a meeting between S&O and Hassan at IIEC s offices in Nairobi and quotes for printing voter registration forms, voter ID cards and ballot papers for the urgent Shinyalu and Bomachoge by-election.
Between the first and second shipments, email discussions had taken place between Mr Nicholas Smith and Mr Oyombra about payment of commission to Trevy and the necessity to pay the senior procurement officer at the IIEC, Kenneth Karani and other officials.

When you exercise in a fasted state, how many square feet in an acre your body has no other option b

Vital Stats
Spot-reduction: A pairing of words with a unique ability to make certain exercisers angrier than a startled honey badger. Perhaps their annoyance stems from that moment they were first told that the hundreds of sit-ups they'd been doing hadn't actually been zeroing in on the fat covering their abs.
Their fury at having wasted their time and energy is indelibly etched into their sub-conscious, so the moment anyone mentions the possibility of spot-reduction being of benefit, they explode and aggressively inform the unsuspecting spot-reducer that their blasphemous notions have contravened fitness's holiest law: Thou shall not enjoy the freedom to choose where thou loses fat.
Well, here's some news for you: spot reduction does work, and you're about to find out the how, the why, and the when. Before you lose your temper, please read on, because you might just be about to lose a part of you that you're not too fond of. How You Burn Fat The Basics
Once how many square feet in an acre the glucose runs out, a signal gets sent to your brain, which directs your body to tap into your stored fat as an energy source. This is called ketosis a process where you start to burn fat for energy.
Your liver snatches some of these triglycerides from your blood and converts them into glycerol for energy, which is pumped to your working muscles. The rest of your fat cells are taken directly to the working muscles to be used as fuel.
Now that your body has begged for energy from your fat cells, they will lose their plumpness though they'll never disappear. This makes the fat tissue shrink and your muscle how many square feet in an acre striations pop. Why You Get Stubborn Fat
When you're in your 30s, your metabolism slows. That means the same food portions how many square feet in an acre will result in heftier figures on the scale. You might be doing what you've always done, but you'll how many square feet in an acre gradually start to see very different results from your diet and training.
Obviously, men are prone to storing these unused calories on their bellies. From an evolutionary perspective, it's placed there to protect your vital organs and bones, but this protective instinct is stronger in some people than others.
In a study in "Obesity Research," overfed participants of a similar weight and height ate an extra 1,000 calories a day. 1 Some participants gained 31 pounds while others gained just 10 pounds. "Those results may be staggering, but genetics are just one player in obesity and are very rarely the main source," says Dr. Graeme Smith, one of Australia's foremost researchers in the field of genetics, muscle, and nutrition.
Heritability can account for as much as 56 percent of your abdominal fat, according to research in the journal "Metabolism." 2 But, before you phone dad to blame him for your lack of a six-pack, it's important to know why some fat has a tendency to be stubborn.
Fat cells have various receptors, called alpha- or beta-receptors. The betas are your heroes, encouraging fat to be burnt. The alphas are the villains that tell it to be stored. Stubborn fat areas have more alpha-receptors, so in order to burn more fat in these body parts you want more beta-receptors and less alphas. The biggest player in creating a more favorable alpha-beta ratio is insulin because stubborn fat is more insulin-sensitive, which sets your fat cells into storage mode when you eat a high-carb diet.
"The biggest player in creating a more favorable alpha-beta ratio is insulin because stubborn fat is more insulin-sensitive, which sets your fat cells into storage mode when you eat a high-carb diet."
The fix: a low-carb diet and exercising while in a fasted state. That explains why new research at Northumbria University, UK, discovered that men burned up to 20 percent more body fat by exercising in the morning on an empty stomach. 3
When you exercise in a fasted state, how many square feet in an acre your body has no other option but to draw energy from your stored fat reserves, aka love handles. Now you know why your fat is settling in your least favorite areas, and here's how you can strong-arm it off the body parts where it's least welcome. Dismantling Your Storage Deposits
This system takes your hormonal profile by obtaining fat measurements via calipers on twelve specific spots on your body. That data is then used to figure out what hormones are out of whack so you can use supplements, improve your diet, and strength train in new ways to correct this balance.
This might sound like the recipe for pretty much all body fat reduction, but here's a breakdown of how his system works. Biosignature Modulation Method Hormone Abnormal Skin Fold Measurement Cortisol Umbilical (stomach) Insulin Supra (love handle), subscapular (upper back) Estrogen Quads, hamstrings Testosterone Pectorial (chest), triceps Growth hormone Knee, calf Thyroid Mid axillary (upper abs below end of ribs)
It's a pretty out-there concept, and is certainly not without its critics who attempt to cite a lack of scientific ev

Earlier in the year, Blind Spot Gear unveiled the Scorpion Light , an insanely versatile minuscule LED fixture designed with professional filmmakers in mind. Since that time, Billy Campbell, Blind Spot's founder and friend of the site, has been hard at work bringing the Scorpion Light into existence and DPing films for a number of major clients. He's also working on a new educational resource for filmmakers - a series of free lighting tutorials in which the topics he teaches are crowdsourced from sites like ours.
Now that the first video in the series is out in the world, Billy is reaching out to the online filmmaking community to ask what they would like to learn next. Here's his open letter to readers of this site and others, as well as an overhead diagram of the simple lighting setup from the above tutorial:

While american standard this series is certainly going to be promotional by nature in that it will extensively feature the Scorpion Light, it still presents an invaluable opportunity for the online cinematography community. american standard Not only do we have the chance to grill a professional cinematographer american standard about his lighting knowledge, but we get to tailor the remainder of this lighting series to the exact topics that we're interested in learning about, which is not an opportunity that comes along every day.
There are literally hundreds of potential topics that could be covered in these tutorials. There's the matter of situational lighting setups like the one above. That could be expanded to how to light for any number of scenarios - comedy, drama, noir, etc. Then there are technical and theory-based questions to be asked. How does color theory apply to lighting? american standard Why do some LEDs flicker at higher frame rates and how do you avoid that dilemma when shooting HFR? What are the various factors american standard that determine any given light's perceived sharpness or softness? What are some lesser known tips for light modification in different scenarios?
I, for one, would like to request an episode about motivating light within american standard a scene. Is it important that light appear as if it's coming from a known natural or practical source? What are the best ways to accomplish that? Are there reasons to deviate away from the strategy of naturally motivating a light source?

The sun has always been one huge light source since the first humans have been walking the earth, and every light mood in nature comes from that one huge light source plus a lot of "flags" and "reflectors" That's why one huge light source plus modelling will always look the most natural. american standard It also looks very natural because the intensity of the light doesn't change much when the talent moves towards it or away from it.

The Liverpool manager has been heavily area rugs criticised for resting key players area rugs but does anyone area rugs really think a full-strength team would have got anything from the Bernabéu? Rodgers hits back at critics after accusations of surrender Match report: Real Madrid 1-0 Liverpool
First, on Monday night, came the reports that Brendan Rodgers may rest Steven Gerrard for the tricky Champions League away tie against Real Madrid. Then, on Tuesday afternoon, came the suggestions that he could also leave Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson and Mario Balotelli out of the starting XI.
Finally, an hour before the match, came confirmation of the players the manager had chosen to play against a side that had scored 54 goals in their 17 games this season. It made for uncomfortable reading: Mignolet; Manquillo, Touré, Skrtel, Moreno; Lucas, Can, Allen; Lallana, Borini and Markovic.
Of all the changes it was, perhaps, Kolo Touré s name that induced the most trepidation (or mirth, depending on who you support). The Ivorian defender had not started a Premier League game since February, against Fulham away, when he scored a hapless own goal.
Most football fans these days seem to think that Kolo Touré is, for a lack of a better word, rubbish. Let s get one thing clear: he is not rubbish. You don t play more than 300 Premier League games and win two league titles while earning more than a 100 caps over 14 years for your country if you are a poor or even an average player. He is a good footballer; a very good footballer.
How good do you think you have to be to turn up at the Bernabéu without much match practice and produce a performance like that? True, he lost Karim Benzema for Real s only goal of the night but he also made numerous blocks and timely interceptions. In fact Touré area rugs s performance was a joy to behold and I challenge anyone to say that Liverpool s defensive display was worse on Tuesday night than at any other point this season.
As Rodgers pointed out, it was not as if the team had been firing on all cylinders and that he had broken the rhythm of a team that was doing very well. We do not have a team with a consistent run of form winning five or six games consecutively so the changes were to get a performance area rugs and result, Rodgers said. That is what happens. As the manager you are open to criticism whether it is deserved or not and I do not worry what people think or say I worry about my players.
So in order to attempt to establish whether Rodgers was right to rest players let s try our very own Liverpool v Real Madrid team selection test : Simply answer area rugs yes or no to these three questions: 1. Are Liverpool likely to have improved their chances of getting a result against area rugs Chelsea area rugs on Saturday with that team selection? 2. Do you think Real Madrid would have beaten the team Rodgers area rugs sent out against Newcastle (or Basel or West Ham for that matter)? 3. Is Brendan Rodgers likely to have a better understanding of the state and shape of his players than an armchair supporter or any pundit?
Another different matter is the suggestion that Rodgers, if he indeed was resting the players, area rugs should have left them at home rather than make them travel and warm up and play 20 minutes. As Lee Dixon said on ITV before the game: Rodgers is trying to find the right balance between giving a performance and getting a result but it could be a risky prospect. If I m a player I want to rest at home and rest properly rather than travelling.
In area rugs the end we just have to wait and see what happens on Saturday as it is pretty much impossible to judge Rodgers team selection at the Bernabéu properly until the final whistle against area rugs Chelsea in three days time. But, in my opinion, even if Liverpool lose against the unbeaten league leaders, area rugs the manager made the right decision area rugs to rest some tired and out-of-form players for a game they were extremely area rugs likely to lose anyway.

Jupiter's Great Red Spot is its particular crimson shade because of the interaction of ultraviolet light and specific chemical compounds in the gas giant's atmosphere. Lee Billings reports
When I say “ Jupiter ,” what comes to mind? Chances are, you pictured a banded orb of gas marked by a big red oval, the giant planet’s Great Red Spot . Scientists have long known that the Great Red Spot is a huge whirling storm rising high above the surrounding cloudtops. But the reason for its reddish hue has been a mystery. One leading theory has been that red-colored compounds are swirling up from deeper down to tint the Spot, a bit like the blush from blood rushing to your cheeks. Now, new results presented at recent meeting of the American Astronomical Society are suggesting chainsaw something different. [Kevin H. Baines, Robert W. Carlson and Thomas W. Momary, Why is the Great Red Spot Red? The Exogenic, Photolytic Origin of the UV/Blue-Absorbing Chromophores chainsaw of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot as Determined by Spectral Analysis of Cassini/VIMS Observations using New Laboratory chainsaw Optical Coefficients ] Working at the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, California, researchers chainsaw exposed two chemicals known to exist in Jupiter’s atmosphere—ammonia and acetylene—to levels of ultraviolet light like those found near the top of the planet’s atmosphere. The ammonia and acetylene turned a shade of red very similar to the Great Red Spot’s, as seen up-close by passing spacecraft. But the lab compounds chainsaw only matched the Spot’s color if on Jupiter they were confined to its highest cloud tops. If they were welling up from beneath and distributed through chainsaw all of the Spot’s layers, the Spot would be a much more brilliant crimson hue than its present pale red color. chainsaw So it looks like UV light's effect means that Jupiter’s Great Red Spot is less like a blush—and more of a sunburn. —Lee Billings [ The above text is a transcript of this podcast. ]

I've long been fascinated with Internet fakers: the people maintenance who hang around forums and social media sites, vomiting lies out of every orifice like a drunken frat boy who's also possessed maintenance by a demon. A few now-defunct maintenance communities once cataloged these filthy, filthy liars, but apart from that, Internet fakers really don't get the attention they deserve. And that's weird, because over the years, I've noticed that they share a bunch of bizarre similarities. Like ... #4. They Often Aren't After Your Money
You've probably heard a lot about Nigerian princes and romance scammers , who for years now have been kindly separating naive computer users from their money. And you've probably maintenance also heard of "catfishing," where people pretend to be someone else for the purpose of a fake online relationship, which honestly is almost as bad as a fish pretending to be a cat.
Catfishers and Nigerian princes are bad people, it's true, but at least these scammers are clearly after something: your lonely aunt's money, maybe, or a sexy nude chat session with your unsuspecting grandpa. Other fakers maintenance on the Internet have much murkier motives. For a start, there are sickness fakers, people who join online communities devoted to chronic illnesses and chime in with stories of their own fictional sufferings. These fakers can go to extremes: in 2012, a college student maintenance admitted she'd pretended to be a man whose son was suffering from kidney cancer, maintenance a scam she'd been running for 11 years . Cancer fakers in particular are so widespread on the Internet that one woman who started a cancer blog was befriended by three unconnected women who all turned out to be pretending. Three .
At first glance, these fake-sick weirdos seem like the online version of people like this man , who claimed to have terminal cancer to get donation money. maintenance But here's the weird part: a lot of the fake-sick people online aren't maintenance after money. That college student with the nonexistent cancer-son? She did collect thousands of dollars in donations ... and they were all forwarded to a legitimate charity. Many other fakers, like the women who scammed the real cancer victim, never ask for money in the first place. On the surface, at least, these people don't seem to be gaining much at all.
This habit of faking illness for no apparent reason even has a name: Munchausen by Internet . It's thought to be a form of Munchausen Syndrome, maintenance a factitious disorder in which patients deceive doctors and loved ones by feigning symptoms of an illness. What exactly causes Munchausen Syndrome is still unknown, but we can all agree that, if nothing else, it allows a person to get all the attention and sympathy that comes with being sick, minus the sucky "being sick" part. Another thing is ... #3. They Don't Even Try to Make Their Lies Realistic
Personally, if I was going to lie on the Internet, I'd put some effort into it. If I wanted to pretend to be, say, a world-renowned expert in monkeys, I'd buy books on primatology and memorize monkey-related facts and make sure that all the pictures of me holding monkeys in my LinkedIn profile were Photoshopped just right. But apparently I'm in the minority, because most people who decide to start lying on the Internet just don't bother. Take military fakers: guys who pop up on social media claiming past or present military service that only ever happened in their head or on their screen during a particularly devoted Call of Duty session. You'd think they'd take the time to learn some basic military shit, like the thing about how if you're a man in the U.S. military, you usually have to shave your beard before you put on a uniform:
Military fakers also inevitably claim to be elite special forces, even though "claims to be elite special forces" is now listed absolutely maintenance everywhere as one of the most common warning signs of a fake, and if they really wanted to slip under the radar they'd be better off saying they were a cook. Hell, even if your lie about being a cook was exposed, people would probably
