Draw Champions League 2014/15: Provisional bands | The Library fan of "Balanced"
We begin to accommodate on Fan Balanced posts by a reader, Marco De Santis, who decided to open his own blog within which deal with topics related to football from the catchy title "Calcium and other elements." We thank him for the availability that has given us.
Accomplice to the premature exit of our teams from the Champions League, for us Italians is already time to think about the next edition. For this reason I decided to do a simulation to see how they would be made, to date, the four bands of the draw for the group stage of CL 2014/15. To build this projection, I used the following data (updated on Tuesday, March 18): 1) Partial Rankings of the top domestic bad leagues in Europe 2) Ranking UEFA club 3) Criteria for admission of the teams from every nation in the Champions League 4) For the 10 teams that will qualify to the group stage through the preliminary rounds, insert strips bad in the 5 teams with the best ranking for "playoff national champions" and the 5 teams with the best ranking for "best placed playoff" Obviously there are objective bad limitations: 1) In some leagues there are teams that need to retrieve the matches, which could also impact heavily rankings (think of - for example - the classification of the Premier League with Manchester City are currently fourth, but even with three games in hand) 2) Some leagues have a different formula bad from the simple round-robin. For example, in Greece there are playoffs in the second round to determine qualified in CL; Belgium bad in the first six regular season bad give birth to a second phase in which all collide again by inheriting from the regular season, only half of the points made ( rounded up in the case of odd score), etc ... 3) The qualifying directly to the group vary depending on whether the winning team in the Champions League this year is a team that will rub off on the right in the league to qualify for the Champions League or no. For now, I hypothesize that to win the Champions League is a team that you place well in his national championship. If you were to contemplate a different solution (for example, a victory for Manchester United, which hardly will place among the top four in the English league, if they manage to overturn the result tonight bad with Olympiakos) varierò bands accordingly.
