In a study by Consumer sherlock Focus Wales a third of customers who have lost their sight has struggled with obstacles in their way, while customers with hearing impairments were not able to use touch tone on four out of five visits.
Yet nine out of ten people who took part in the study were post office workers praised for being professional. 80% said that they would feel confident about using the post office in the future.
"It is at the heart of the community, enabling local people to access a wide range of services without having to travel too far from home - something that is particularly valuable for many blind and partially sighted people who find it 'difficult sherlock to travel on their own.
"The fact that a third of people say that it is difficult even to go through the door, because of obstacles and hazards that could cause them to trip, a genuine concern, sherlock and I hope that we can now work with them to help them make the Post Office a safe and welcoming place for everyone in the local community "said Kerry Jackson.
"Given that one in six people in Wales do not have a hearing loss that post offices provide services that are fully accessible to their customers - it's bad for business, not to mention that in poor customer service.
